Vic Wood Tennis Tribute     01-10-2020      Age 81

Born on January 21st, 1939 Vic Wood was a lifetime tennis player and coach from Narre Warren, Victoria.

In 1966 he was a foundation member of the Bennettswood Tennis club where he became the part time club coach along with his wife, Bev from 1979 to 1992. He was responsible for developing many top players and future coaches and led a tennis tour of 10 juniors to the USA in 1991. He was the BTC Singles Club Champion 7 times from 1970 to 1976

In 1978 Vic became President of Blackburn South Tennis Club for two years and then again in 2006 to 2011. In September 1979 Vic founded the revolutionary Yamaha Classic junior tournament attracting 1248 entries and successfully operated the event for the next 12 years. In 2011 Vic helped create the merger of BSTC with Bennettswood TC to become Eley Park TC which remains a welcoming community tennis club.

In 1980 Vic assisted with coaching duties for the Linton and Wilson cup teams and in 1982 went on to become an accredited Level 3 (High Performance) coach. He played many seasons of LTAV “A” grade pennant and won titles at several country tournaments.

The whole TCAV community collectively and respectfully passes on our deepest condolences to Bev, Steve, Jeff and Family. Vic will be sadly missed by all but leaves a great legacy in the tennis world. Rest in Peace Vic Wood.
