Rob Peterson retires from TCAV Board

TCAV Life Member Robert Peterson resigned from the TCAV Board of Management at last Sunday’s AGM held at the Elsternwick Park Tennis Centre. Rob made another stirring speech again demonstrating his unwavering passion for tennis, tennis coaching, and the TCAV. Rob has served diligently and productively on the Board for almost 20 years managing multiple portfolios including membership, finance, tournaments, sponsorship, and as secretary.

Peter Owen visits USPTA World HQ in Lake Nona

TCAV Board member Peter Owen visited the USPTA World Headquarters and USTA National Campus in Lake Nona Orlando after attending the USPTA/USTA Tennis Teachers’ Conference in New York City as part of the 2018 US Open.
The USTA National Campus boasting 101 courts and state of the art training facilities and the USPTA World HQ opened their doors in January this year.
Amy Buchanan Director of Membership and Certification was very kind to give Peter a comprehensive tour of the incredible facilities and an insight into the operational framework and future direction of USPTA.

Lisa Hartnett to join Board

TCAV is delighted to welcome Lisa Hartnett to the TCAV Board of Management. Lisa will replace Life Member Robert Peterson who has retired from the Board after almost 20 years of outstanding and committed service.

Lisa comes from a long line of family tennis players. Her mother, Deidre Catt, played for Great Britain and reached a top 12 world ranking beating Billie Jean King. Both her father and uncle played internationally.

TCAV would like to thank the wonderful USPTA Team who made us feel so welcome at the recent USTA Tennis Teachers Conference in New York City as a lead in to the United States Open. Many TCAV members attended the conference including President Julie Fidler, Board members Rob Peterson and Peter Owen, Richard Foley, Mark Sheppard, Mark Stevens, Dan Donnelly, and prize winner James Cooper among others.

Kooyong royalty feature at TCAV Awards night

The annual TCAV Awards night on Sunday night at Royal South Yarra provided many highlights, great stories, words of wisdom, and plenty of laughs.
Kooyong and Royal South Yarra legend Cedric Mason became the third ever winner of the prestigious Ian Occleshaw Award following his Spirit of Tennis Award at the Tennis Victoria Annual Awards.
Former Ian Occleshaw Award recipient and inaugural TCAV President Frank Sedgman paid tribute to Cedric in a very entertaining speech.
Cedric responded in turn by paying tribute to the late great Ian Occleshaw and sharing many wonderful anecdotes and wise words. As always the perfect gentleman.

Ian Occleshaw Award to be announced

The TCAV Board of Management is excited to soon announce the latest recipient of the prestigious Ian Occleshaw Award. The recipient is a true gentleman, character, and absolute icon of tennis in Victoria.
This award was struck soon after the passing and in memory of our inaugural TCAV Legend. The award is to be presented to a person, coach or otherwise, who has committed an outstanding act or made a significant contribution to tennis coaching or to the game of tennis in the spirit and to the standard of the late great Ian Occleshaw.

TCAV Awards night announced Sunday 22th July 2018 at RSY

The TCAV will in future hold our annual awards night in July. There is a clutter of Awards later in the year and TCAV management have taken the opportunity to find a clear space around Wimbledon to recognise the achievements of our members. The timing will also enable us to nominate our prestigious TCAV George Gilmore Memorial Trophy winner for the Newcombe Medal category of Most Outstanding Club Coach.

Elizabeth Peers inducted into Hall of Fame

Elizabeth Peers joins Lois Plowman and Cheryl Hewitt as our third female Hall of Fame inductee. Elizabeth accepted the award in front of her peers, colleagues, and family at the TCAV annual awards night at Royal South Yarra LTC on Sunday December 3. Liz was moved by the surprise appearance and beautiful words of daughter Sally. Husband Bill and brother Trevor Little were also there to support Liz. Liz joins a very celebrated list of Hall of Fame inductees as featured on our Honour Roll and Honour Board (pictured)
